Few songwriters are more deserving of a tribute concert than Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, whose catalogue of classics includes tunes for Elvis Presley (“Jailhouse Rock,” “Loving You”), the Drifters (“On Broadway”), the Coasters (“Poison Ivy”) and Ben E. King (the immortal “Stand By Me”), to name but a few. This two-hour show, recorded in London in 2001, includes those and two dozen other songs. But it's heavy on performers virtually unknown to U.S. audiences; so unless the likes of Victoria Owen, Paulette Ivory, Oliver Darley and Mark Lamarr float your boat, even some pretty decent renditions of Leiber-Stoller tunes may prove less than thrilling. To be fair, we also get King, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, ‘70s popster Leo Sayer, show closer Tom Jones and a few others whose names will ring a bell. But for the most part, American viewers are far more likely to react with a “Who?” than a “Wow!” Not a necessary purchase. Aud: P. (S. Graham)
