Guitarist Adrian Belew, primarily known for his work with the avant-garde rock band King Crimson, here demonstrates his exceptional skill and knowledge with playing the electronic guitar. Electronic, as opposed to electric, guitar utilizes various pieces of electronic equipment, including volume pedals, graphic equalizers, flangers, and guitar synthesizers, to both enhance the sound of the guitar and produce a number of striking effects. Belew, traditionally an innovator, shows viewers how to reproduce the sounds of elephants, rhinos, and seagulls, as well as how to make the guitar mimic a violin, organ, or set of bagpipes. Belew concludes with an introduction on alternative tunings for the guitar, and the advantages of using a fretless guitar. There's no question that Belew knows his subject cold. But one has to wonder how many patrons own or have access to the vast range of electronic toys that Belew utilizes. Recommended, where there might be demand.
