Views from the summits of mountains are always spectacular; maybe that's why people climb them. Ascent on G2 presents the story of a Washington State climber, Christine Boskov, who wanted to be the first American woman to climb to the top of Gasherbrum II (known as G2) in Pakistan, the 14th highest peak in the world. In this program, which aired on the Travel Channel, viewers follow Boskov's preparations as she selects a climbing group, and then begins her journey, establishing camps at different levels on the way up, building towards the inevitable suspense of "will she or won't she summit?" Although there is very little here that has not been seen in a slew of other mountain climbing videos, the program's main interest lies in the attempts of a woman to succeed in a sport normally dominated by men, making this an inspirational choice for both high school and public libraries. A strong, optional purchase. Aud: H, P. (J. Carlson)
