Produced by and featuring inner city youth from the Bronx, this short tape looks at how "young people learn to cope with the loss of loved ones despite living in a culture that denies death." A handful of teens discuss how they felt when a parent, friend, sibling, or pet died, coupled with brief commentary from several experts in the field. While their stories are indeed touching (particularly poignant is the young man who tells us that he is now, finally, "happier to have known [my dad] than sad that he died"), the production is ultimately too brief, anecdotal, and "videographer-in-training"-like to be anything but an optional purchase for library collections. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
