Using an "At the Movies" framing device, this program for library managers focuses on the various features that make for "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" interviews. Roger Egbert and Jean Siscool are the hosts who review four film clips of different interview situations: a reprimand, evaluations, and a staff input session (this last situation having a bit of unintentional humor, when an employee suggests that they speed up the circulation process in order to shorten the check-out lines-for cosmetic reasons.) Eight steps, including preparation, developing an interview guide, listening, and documenting the interview, are stressed throughout. While the "At the Movies" frame device is rather corny, the suggestions embodied in the program will give library managers a good foundation for building good interpersonal communication skills. Recommended. (Available from: ALA Video, 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
