The initial episode in a three-part series devoted to the history and understanding of the Atlantic Ocean, Island Realms is a tour of the myriad of Atlantic Islands from Iceland to the Bahamas, the unique life forms that have arisen on these "island arks," and a look at how "life" came to what was once a barren rock. Beginning with the Bahamas, the camera goes underwater to record a rarely photographed spectacle: the birth of lemon sharks--11, to be precise. On St. Helena, one time prison for Napoleon, the lifestyles of lovebirds are examined. And on Bosun Bird Island, we watch the daily battle fought between the boobies and the frigate birds. This is a good science program, suitable for junior and senior high school libraries. Recommended. (Other titles in the series are: Ocean of Light and Into the Abyss.)
