In Jewels of Blue, viewers are introduced to the Eastern Bluebird, a native North American songbird, found east of the Rockies, and the object of intense reclamation efforts in the state of Minnesota. The life cycle, habitats, and predators of the bluebird are all discussed and augmented with excellent close-up footage. And the cameras take viewers to meet residents of a bluebird trail, including a 98-year-old man who gets plenty of exercise and a sense of purpose in maintaining his boxes for his beloved bluebirds. Bluebird Trails duplicates some of the information found in the former tape, but contains much additional information on starting up and monitoring a bluebird trail. For general information, the first title is recommended. Those libraries with large indigenous bluebird populations might want both. (Available from: Birds Eye Productions, 3060 So.
