I suppose it's probably not really cricket to review a program that one appears in. On the other hand, since I stand to gain not a dime from this tape whether it races to the top of the bestseller charts or dies an ignominious death in the warehouse, why would I not tell the truth? So, this is a good, inexpensive (very for ALA) program culled from a day-long preconference workshop on children's video in libraries. Specifically, the speakers talk about selection criteria, collection development, children's books on video, programming with children's video, promoting video collections, access by minors, and circulation fees. The speakers include: Pat Craig (Arlington Heights Public Library), Maureen Gaffney (Center for Children's Media), Jerri Shales (children's media consultant), William Reider (Baltimore County Public Schools), Susan Pine (New York Public Library), Sally Mason (ALA), James Scholtz (Northern Illinois Library System), entertainer Shari Lewis, and me. The tape would have received our highest rating of * * * * - however, for some reason, the powers that be left Lamb Chop on the cutting room floor. Otherwise, highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
