Call this one a video pamphlet: It's about as exciting as watching paint dry, the narration is flatter than gum on a sidewalk, and the visuals are a lot like that tape of Uncle Howie's trip to Mazatlan. Which is unfortunate, since a would-be traveler could easily glean quite a few solid tips about getting by in Costa Rica's capital city of San Jose, or learn where to find howler monkeys along the Sarapaqui river, or benefit from suggestions for exploring Mayan archaeological sites. Still, even though viewers excited about an upcoming vacation to the crystal waters of Belize or the sleepy town of Placencia would pick up some pointers, they're liable to be turned off by the lack of professional-looking footage of these Central American beauty spots. Not a necessary purchase. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
