The Crooked Stick Golf Course in Indianapolis was the sight last year of golf's Cinderella story: John Daly's victory at the PGA Championship. An alternate who barely made it into the competition, the 25-year-old rookie Daly took on Nicklaus, Ballesteros, Faldo, and Woosnam in a thrilling 4-day competition highlighted by Daly's awesome 300-yard plus drives. Daly's...The Long Shot basically edits the footage from the PGA Championship down to a manageable hour, and follows the course of the competition from Daly's competent (but hardly threatening) performance during the first round to his final championship winning putt on the 18th hole three days later. Filling out the program are a few "news" segments (the tragic death of a fan who was killed by lightning) and profiles (sportswriter Dick Taylor, for example, who received a lifetime achievement award from PGA). While not interesting enough to lure non-golf fans, your basic weekend duffers will eat this up. Recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
