If you saw 50 pink Cadillacs coming down your street, what would be your level of enthusiasm by caddy number 45? Pretty low, right? Same thing with basketball dunks, of which there are hundreds in this tape. Hosted by NBC Sports' Marv Albert and ex-Utah Jazz coach Frank Layden, this tape is an endless series of bloopers (people falling down, mostly) and slam dunks. But there is no rhyme or reason (or even rhythm) to the footage. One section, which follows the history of the slam dunk competition, at least has a chronological story to tell, with characters, action, and some suspense. In other words, it at least resembles narrative. The rest is merely a one-note parade, broken up only by Albert's and Layden's chatter. Their comic one-upmanship will go a long way towards supporting the stereotype that sports professionals are really Neanderthals who were accidentally caught in a time warp. Not recommended.
