The third title in IVN's "visual music video line" (the others were Ocean Rhapsody and Wilderness Rhapsody), Desert Rhapsody may well be the driest of the bunch. Film footage of varying age is cut to the music of Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, and others. Shots of shifting sands, scurrying insects, and flowers in lovely bloom are sometimes repeated in more than one segment. Filmed in and around Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon country, Desert Rhapsody has several nice scenes; however, unlike the more adventurous nature music videos from Miramar (such as Desert Vision), this program is neither innovative in its technique nor particularly inspired in its choice of images. A very workmanlike tape. Not recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
