What do pampas, savannas, steppes, and prairies have in common? They're all different names for grasslands, depending on which continent they are found on. This excellent video focuses on the characteristics, history, and natural life of the grassland biome (an area with a specific climate and plant life) of North America, called a prairie. The narration is thorough and logical in progression, and covers key terminology, and the cinematography is quite artistic, with stock historical footage intercut with well-composed shots of prairie life. A teacher's guide is included with ideas on integrated learning, as this video is part of a series on biomes that blend history and science, including Desert Biomes: Essential and Endangered and Wetland Biomes: Essential and Endangered (VL-1/99). Recommended. Aud: I, J, H. (E. Gieschen)
