"Sculpture is an art of the open air..." said sculptor Henry Moore, and this nicely filmed documentary offers a sumptuous sampling of Moore's work. Shot at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Breton, England, the camera examines Moore's sculptures while the soundtrack alternates between music and Moore's comments. Moore's three obsessions appear in recurrent motifs found in many of his works: the reclining figure, a form within a form, and the mother and child. Instantly recognizable, the huge figure sculptures with the smiley faces are, at once, both calming and frighteningly impersonal. Good cinematography and interesting insights from the artist himself make this a good choice for university libraries and public libraries with large modern art collections. Recommended.
