Timothy George, dean of the Beeson School of Theology at Samford University in Alabama, here presents a survey course designed to stimulate curiosity by providing glimpses of some of the pivotal events in the spread of Christianity together with sketches of great Christian figures. Covering the years 65 AD to 1989, each of the six episodes--"The Early Church," "The Church in the Middle Ages," "The Reformation," "The Age of Reason and Piety," "Christianity in the New World" and "Christian Movement in an Age of Uncertainty"--opens with a timeline outlining major events from the period followed by a surprisingly detailed commentary from Dr. George, reinforced by beautiful graphics, apt quotations and appropriate musical selections. While this is definitely an overview, this substantial and accessible series is scholarly, well organized, absorbing, enjoyable and will appeal to a wide audience. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (J. Reed)
