This fascinating documentary explores the quite feasible thesis that Hitler's defeat was due less to American and British supremacy, than it was to his own flaws as a military strategist. Interviewing several of Hitler's contemporaries, the film covers what little is known about Hitler's childhood, and thin moves rapidly into a dissection of the genesis of the Third Reich, with the charismatic-but decidedly unbalanced-leader and powerful orator at its helm. In some respects, Hitler emerges as a pawn of history. Initially wanting to regain the land that Germany lost in WWI, he expected little or no resistance-and was deeply disturbed when Britain (whom he greatly admired) entered the war. The Battle of Dunkirk is just one of many key battles, in which it is shown that Hitler's foolhardiness--rather than strong opposition-cost him the victory. One can still hear the plaintive frustration in interviewee Adolph Galland's voice as he recalls Hitler's dismissal of the Messerschmidt 262-a jet that flew approximately 200 m.p.h. faster than any other plane then in existence. How Hitler Lost the War is an intriguing documentary that offers a different viewpoint of the course of WWII. Highly recommended.
