In these three stand alone documentaries, which first aired on NOVA, viewers will learn about what they can find on ice if they're lucky. Return of the Iceman, for instance, chronicles the remarkable discovery in the Alps of the body of a man who lived in the late-Neolithic era (5,300 years ago). During an unusually warm Alpine winter, a couple of hikers came across the very well-preserved remains of the Iceman, a find which turned out to be a bonanza for anthropologists, those who work in prehistoric botany and just about everyone else who's interested in the history of Neolithic humankind. Frozen in Heaven deals with the discovery of the "El Pomo" boy, a victim of the copa cocha human sacrifices practiced by the Inca people. Siberian Ice Maiden relates the discovery of, and subsequent research regarding, the body of a woman who lived 2,400 years ago on the Central Asian Plateau. All of these documentaries offer thought-provoking glimpses into the lives and times of ancient peoples, about whom we know a great deal more than we used to--thanks to these fortunate finds, which have patiently waited in cold storage for thousands of years. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Aud: J, H, C, P. (P. Van Vleck)
