In any history of modern popular music, K.C. & the Sunshine Band would rank no more than a minor footnote. Fronted by Harry Wayne Casey (i.e. K.C.), the band scored a few disco hits during the mid-70s--and like the other disco acts of the period--were gone by the end of the decade. Filmed in Miami, during their 1974 tour, this live concert is hampered by a washed-out video look, occasionally muddy sound, and bland music. K.C., sporting gold medallions, a star-spangled jumpsuit with a deep-v cut to the navel, and the kind of everpresent grin that is generally associated with game show hosts, sings and plays half-a-dozen forgettable tunes before the band launches into one of their big hits: "That's the Way (I Like It)." This is followed by "Get Down Tonight," and then an encore of "That's the Way." Viewers are likely to recall these two tunes, and will perhaps miss the third big K.C. hit, "Shake Yer Booty," released in 1976. As music videos go, this one's about as mediocre--from the visual approach to the actual music--as they come. Not recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
