Who killed JFK? This documentary claims to add Lyndon Johnson to the list of usual suspects. Diving headfirst into the seamy Texas political scene of the '50s and early '60s, the program builds its case through innuendo (is J. Edgar Hoover's sexual orientation relevant here?), very circumstantial evidence, and loads of outright rumor mongering. In short order, the video has bodies piling up faster than any Shakespearean tragedy (17 by my count, including LBJ's sister Josefa.) It's hard to get a fix on what this video is saying, because the fluctuating volume level is disorienting, making it difficult to understand who is speaking at any given time. For the record, LBJ: A Closer Look places convicted swindler and wheeler dealer Billy Sol Estes at the center of the plot and just to prove that it's up to the minute it somehow drags literary agent and Monicagate figure Lucianne Goldberg into the mess. What can you say about the accuracy of a video which also advertises a documentary purporting to blow the lid off the Martin Luther King murder as "comming" soon? This is the kind of video that gives conspiracy theories a bad name. Emphatically not recommended. Aud: P. (S. Rees)
