The second issue of Library Video Magazine, hosted by Nora Rawlinson opens with a long segment on the shocking April and September fires which struck the Los Angeles Public Library last year. After a brief recap, members of the staff are interviewed about their reactions, what adjustments they've had to make, etc. In between the fires, the Hollywood Regional Library opened the doors of its new building (funded by a grant from movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn, Jr.). Short segments on Norman Stevens, a collector of library memorabilia; new children's music artists; and the controversy over a commissioned fresco at the Chicago Public Library are included. The most interesting segment, "Teaching Information Literacy at the University", focuses on efforts at Cornell University's Mann Library to promote information literacy by teaching people how to do online bibliographic database searches. Once again, it is pleasant to see a video periodical addressed to the needs and interests of librarians. Recommended. (Available from: ALA Video, 50 East Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611).

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
