This issue opens with a segment of particular interest to video librarians: "Circulating Videos: Pay to Push Play", which covers both the free vs. fee question (with cogent remarks from Charles Robinson, Baltimore County Public Library, and Ray Serebrin, Seattle Public Library, among others) and the Heartland Institute report on keeping libraries out of video lending. Other segments include: a humorous look at the ALA Fun Run and Walk, with LVM executive producer Art Plotnik, huffing, puffing, and querying librarians on the run; the evolution of the St. Louis Public Library referendum, for which director Glen Holt hired a professional campaign director; and an engaging look at the Hertzberg Circus Collection of memorabilia in San Antonio, Texas. The centerpiece is a wonderful segment on Monterey, CA's county library system, headed by Dallas Shaffer. Rare archival footage is shown of the library's method of book delivery 70 years ago: by horse. And the LVM crew visits a branch library of the Monterey system which serves a population of 34 (people, formerly the building was a chicken coop). Highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
