After a rather muddy opening on Legislative Day in Washington (muffled sound), this year's final issue of LVM gears up to its consistently professional standards with a lovely look at the architecture of the San Juan Capistrano Public Library in Orange Co., CA. Moving from the art of building to the art of conversation, LVM interviews the legendary Lawrence Clark Powell, University Librarian for 17 years at UCLA, and prolific author. The feisty octogenarian hailed librarians to work from within: 'don't throw a stink bomb over the wall; carry it in yourself'. There are also segments on the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the new breed of male children's librarians, and the first of a two-part look at the creator of the Dewey Decimal System: Melvil Dewey. Recommended. (Available from: ALA Video, 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611).

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
