Thanks to lead poisoning, a historic home, peeling paint, and a teething toddler are a recipe for disaster. As Living with Lead assures us, the preventable disease remains an invisible but grave threat, particularly to low-income families who may be living in old, poorly maintained dwellings. Lead exposure produces children with lower IQs, hyperactivity, and various physical problems, in effect reducing the potential for a stable, productive life. The first half of the video personalizes the issue by zeroing in on mothers coping with the fact that their children are poisoned, and a doctor who explains the medical side of the story. Part Two outlines actions a community can take to fight lead poisoning, including reduction and abatement tactics. The video convinces the viewer that lead poisoning is an environmental, economic, and health issue worth our attention. Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (A. Laker)
