Formed in 1976, the Emerson String Quartet has swiftly risen in reputation, to the point where it is now considered to be one of the finest quartets in the world. The members--Phillip Setzer, Eugene Drucker (who, interestingly, share the role of first violinist), David Finckel, and Lawrence Dutton--discuss both their separate roles and background in the quartet, and their feelings about the quartet as a group. Unlike many others, the members of the Emerson String Quartet are close friends, as well as professional associates. Shot over a week in Martha's Vineyard, the quartet is seen working on, and finally playing, Ravel's Quartet in F Major. Young musicians and music aficionados in general will be inspired by the enthusiasm of these four articulate young men. Recommended. (See HERMAN AND MARGUERITE for availability).
