Commissioned by the Comitato per l'Ostensione della Sindone, Man of Pain tells the story of the Holy Shroud, in which Jesus was purportedly wrapped after his crucifixion, now housed in Turin, Italy. The program takes a highly reverential look at the history of the shroud and dismisses carbon dating of the garment as inconclusive. Not surprisingly, this rehash of the arguments for and against the authenticity of the shroud is unlikely to change any minds. For believers, Man of Pain will confirm their faith that it is indeed the original shroud. For those who are skeptics, the video will still provide an interesting historical overview of the garment's long journey throughout Europe and the Middle East. Recommended. Aud: P. (S. Fisher)
