Struck from a re-mastered print, this early documentary of Adolph Hitler's rise and fall is still a powerful examination of the most shocking period in our recent history. Comprised of old newsreels and amateur films (including footage from the secret archives of the Nazi SS Elite Guard), the rather inappropriately titled Mein Kampf details Germany's social and political history from the close of World War I, through the economic hardships of the 20s and the rise to power of the young Adolf Hitler during the 30s, before offering a blow-by-blow account of the buildup and eventual destruction of the Third Reich. Incorporating numerous clips of Hitler delivering his infamous speeches, the film also contains a harrowing look at life inside a Polish ghetto, under Nazi rule. Intelligent narration, a wealth of historical film footage, and the perennial fascination with the subject matter, make this an excellent choice for libraries. Highly recommended.
