A live concert featuring children's recording artist Glenn Bennett, the opening 10 minutes of this program didn't exactly grab me by the guts. Bennett's retro-rock "Don't Just Sit There" and awkward musical survey "I Like My Music With a Beat" (encompassing rock, Beethoven, and Mexican rhythms) struck me as a rather wimpy substitute for pre-schoolers and early elementary kids who were used to seeing Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) prancing around the stage with a semi-automatic pelvis singing "Dude Looks Like a Lady." However, "Rock and Roll Dog" had a nice audience participation bit, and "Haircuts," an ode to individual expression through hair style was downright clever. And, before I knew it my jaded cynicism was draining away and I was chirping in on the chorus to "Sock Monster." Plus, you've got to give credit to someone who can write a serious love song about vegetables ("Brussel Sprouts"). In short, this is a good, inexpensive, rock 'n roll video for youngsters. Includes five other songs. Recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
