Based on the book by John Walker, and narrated by J. Carter Brown, Director of the National Gallery of Art, this visually crisp look at some of our greatest national treasures is divided into two sections. Part 1 is a short overview of art in general, and a specific history of the national gallery itself, from its founder, Andrew Mellon, to its recent addition of the East Bldg., designed by architect I.M. Pei. Part 2 is a tour of the holdings, including the only Da Vinci in America, and masterworks by Raphael, Titian, El Greco, Rembrandt, David, and Renoir. In the East Bldg. are housed the great works of this century by Picasso, Brach, Pollock, Matisse, and Calder, among others. This is an excellent program, and would make an excellent addition to any fine arts collection. Highly recommended. (Also available on videodisc.) (See BELLISSIMO for availability)

This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
