People dream of world peace like they dream of winning the lottery. This video dreams that dream for you at the cost of $150. Peace Like a River consists of footage from an unidentified global religions conference. As such, it is a parade of multicultural talking heads and people of many religions dancing together in colorful clothing under the Chicago skyline. The concept is charming; the result, subpar. I'm sure those in attendance were moved by the spirit of unity. But the spirit in the video gets lost among the pageantry and sound bytes. Peace Like A River is touted as "a video to help diffuse the flames of racial and religious hatred," a tall order for a 13-minute program. Instead it impacts the viewer like a greeting card: easy on the eye and sentimental but ultimately lightweight. The dream of world peace ought to be examined with a little more depth. A very optional purchase. Audience: J, H, P. (A. Laker)
