The Artist Who Was Formerly Known as Prince and Now Is Known as Prince Again Thanks to Copyright Expirations is caught in less than optimum form in this countdown to 2000 concert featuring such hits as "Let's Go Crazy," "Purple Rain," "Raspberry Beret," "Kiss" and, of course, a prolonged "1999." Prince generously shares the stage with guests Morris Day, Lenny Kravitz, George Clinton, and others, meaning that a full third or more of the concert is comprised of non-Prince material (for my money, I would have rather heard "When Doves Cry" than Lenny Kravitz's uninspired reworking of "American Woman"). But what really makes this rave a bummer is the warp speed, headache-inducing editing both in the program itself and in the essentially incoherent bonus interview (called "innerviews"). Very optional. Aud: C, P. (R. Pitman)
