Speaking of faces, I had almost forgotten what it was like to have Rod Stewart's tush thrust into my own. Often seen here with his trademark waggling derriere filling up the screen, a youthful Stewart (circa 1974) and Faces (including Ron Wood, who would shortly thereafter depart to join the Rolling Stones) teams up with the Stones' Keith Richards in a high energy final blast before the rock 'n roll imp abandoned his origins for disco and pop. Hits include: "Twistin' the Night Away," "Sweet Little Rock 'n Roller," "You Wear It Well," Stewart's cover of Hendrix's "Angel" (a personal fave) and one of the definitive rock anthems of the '70s: "Maggie May." Unfortunately, the video and audio qualities are godawful, with splices resulting in odd jumps in the scratchy low-fidelity print. For those looking for primary source material, you've found it; for those looking for pristine Rod Stewart and Faces, buy the digitally remastered early CDs instead or the Rod Stewart 4-CD omnibus collection Storyteller.
