Russell Peters' latest one-man-show, recorded live at a sold-out audience at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden, features hilarious material from his raucous “Homecoming Tour” (after traveling to Dubai and India). As might be expected from the title Red, White and Brown, Peters—a Canadian-born comedian with Indian parents—has made a specialty of garnering laughs from potentially dicey material involving race and ethnicity (it's a true testimony to his skill as a comedian that he's able to do so without ruffling feathers). No one in the audiences is spared: people of varying ethnicities are targeted for good-natured ribbing, and he isn't afraid to lampoon, say, a woman who gets up to go to the bathroom, or a man who brings his young child to the performance. Riffing on topics ranging from body hair to sports, Peters—displaying masterful timing and pitch-perfect delivery—is a real up-and-comer who could very well become a comedy superstar in the near future. DVD extras include an audio commentary, deleted scenes, and featurettes. Also included is a bonus audio CD of the show. Recommended. Aud: P. (E. Hulse)
