Behold the mighty sturgeon: a bumpy backed, scum-sucking bottom feeder on the verge of becoming extinct around the world. Normally, my heart goes out to the critters who are the victims of man's insatiable appetite to dominate the planet, and I'm sure I could rustle up some sympathy for the sturgeon if only the producers of this video had given me a reason. Doing his best "Hi, my name is Troy McClure" impersonation, actor James Drury takes us on a visit to various ‘sturgeon surgeons' who are trying to return these homely fish to their original habitats. Is this being done as a form of ‘apology' to the sturgeon for building dams that have blocked their spawning abilities? Not according to this video, which seems to say that the only reason the sturgeon should be saved from the executioner's block is to reintroduce them as game fish to sportsmen who enjoyed hoisting them up as trophies. If your library is located in an area where the survival of sturgeon is a hot topic, pick up this video. Otherwise, it's not a necessary purchase. Aud: P. (J. Carlson)
