The Doggie Day Care Business
After a perplexing intro (a short voiceover encouraging folks to forsake the corporate world for self-employment), this production presents an hour-plus of solid business advice for those willing to consider running a doggie daycare. Interview clips with pet daycare owners, responding to questions about this burgeoning field, are interwoven with facts from the trade organization American Boarding Kennels Association (tidbits such as “73% of pet owners are willing to go into debt for their pet's well-being,” underscoring the notion that a solid market exists). The program is quick to point out, however, that the doggie daycare business is more a labor of love/lifestyle decision than an opportunity to turn a quick buck, ideal for DINKS (Dual-Income, No Kids) for whom a pet is oftentimes a surrogate child. Viewers will learn that doggie daycare is far more than just playing with animals all day, and involves understanding zoning regulations, effective advertising strategies, managing clients, properly screening animals (that will get along with other animals), handling emergencies, and much more. At the end of the program, each of the doggie daycare owners' phone numbers are provided, and viewers are encouraged to call them directly for consulting, presumably for a fee. All in all, The Doggie Day Care Business features a great deal of solid advice on an off-the-beaten-kennel-run career choice. Recommended. Aud: P. (C. Block)
