The Perfect Storm Rescues

Thanks to the George Clooney/Mark Wahlberg summer blockbuster, The Perfect Storm, based on Sebastian Junger's best-selling book, this 2-volume video is bound to spark a tidal wave of curiosity with audiences of all ages. What makes it special, in my estimation, is the focus on the bravery of Coast Guard personnel who are called upon to perform heroic rescues in the most impossible of weather conditions. Although the rescues shown here were filmed by Coast Guard personnel, what they lack in technical skill is more than made up for in the harrowing suspense of nail-biting reality. The first volume features several rescues in places as varied as Alaska and New England, while the second looks at the training received by rescue swimmers, as well as additional rescues, including the one featured in The Perfect Storm. Giving the Coast Guard the spotlight it so richly deserves, this sure to be popular set is strongly recommended. Aud: P. (J. Carlson)
