The first home video re lease from the National Geographic Society focuses on one of man's greatest fears: the shark. Although only a handful of the 350 species of sharks are actually harmful to man, the fear has persisted, and fueled the boxoffice receipts for one of the largest grossing motion pictures of all time: Jaws. And while much of the special is, in fact, devoted to the Great White, a good portion of the program examines some of the recent research that has been undertaken on the eating habits, sleeping habits (it was heretofore thought that sharks never stopped moving), and sensory abilities of sharks in general. This is a fascinating and realistic look at a creature that has long existed in human minds more on a mythological level. Characteristically, the underwater photography is superb. Highly recommended.
