This award-winning program features Jacques Cousteau and the crew of the Calypso tracking and studying the California Grey Whale. Narrated by the late Rod Serling, this program focuses on the annual migration of the California Greys from the Bering Sea to Baja, California, their ancestral breeding ground. Following scenes of mating, the crew observe the interaction between mother and baby whales. And, in an extended segment, the Calypso crew attempt (unsuccessfully, as it turns out) to save the life of a beached baby grey. Although this program was shot in 1969, the expertise of the photographer (Cousteau's son) is such that the underwater photography is memorable. Recommended.
