Philosopher, psychiatrist and best-selling author Raymond Moody has built upon his studies of the near death experience to explore issues concerning contact with the departed. In the course of his psychiatric practice, he learned that many people reported being in the presence of lost loved ones. Observing the healing qualities of this experience, Moody studied the ancients, and traveled to Ephrya, Greece, which Homer described as the site of the Oracle of the Dead. After studying the rituals performed there and the experiences of others throughout the ages, Moody set out to replicate the conditions in his own laboratory. We meet some of the subjects who participated in his experiments and learn how they too were able to have powerful confrontations with loved ones. Viewers are also introduced to Moody's next step--his Hermes project, in which he calls for those who have had a near death experience and are now terminally ill to come to a special facility where their insights can shed light on the dying process. Beautifully photographed on-site recreations of ancient rituals, skillfully edited interviews, and fascinating subject matter make this highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (J. Reed)
