U-Boat War

Winston Churchill wrote that "the threat the U-Boats posed in the Atlantic was the only thing that really frightened me during the war. On their defeat, hung the outcome of World War Two." There is no exaggeration here. Despite the formidable land and air battles that were fought in Europe, the U-Boat submarine commanders had the power to tilt the war in favor of the Germans, but at the height of their command of the seas, they lost that power and, with it, the war. This remarkable 3-video set takes viewers inside the claustrophobic confines of the U-Boats by presenting recently discovered never-before-seen footage taken by the Nazis. The commanders and crews of these subs were fearless; knowing that death was a very likely outcome of their forays into the Atlantic, they roamed in what came to be known as ‘wolf packs', sinking every Allied ship possible. It was not until English cryptographers cracked the ‘Enigma Code' that the Allies were able to track these ‘packs' and avoid them. With perennial interest in WWII materials even higher thanks to recent Hollywood entries, this unique, suspenseful, and consistently entertaining look at the relatively short, but very deadly, existence of these submarines will attract many viewers.
