This awesome documentary on the history of the space shuttle is notable for two reasons, in particular. First, the footage is absolutely breathtaking, and second, the humor--with the space shuttle members sort of acting like Keystone Cops in outer space--is unexpected and quite refreshing. From the launch in 1981 of Columbia to the tragic ending of the Challenger mission in 1986, this program covers it all. (Unlike some other programs which were rushed to market in the wake of the Challenger tragedy, this is a thorough examination of the space shuttle program--not a cheap exploitation quickie.) We witness satellites being launched from the shuttle, and repaired in space; see men walk in space for the first time ever; watch the first night liftoff; and smile as the shuttle inhabitants chase after their breakfast sausage, test how a Slinky will act in zero gravity, and celebrate Halloween and Christmas. A superb program. Highly recommended. (See CANADA'S SWEETHEART for availability.)
