Sound bites ordinarily drive me up the proverbial den paneling, but they're like music to one's ears when faced with the alternative of listening to a teen talk for nearly seven minutes in real time about his food service job. Welcome to the Real World eschews the glamour of other teen job oriented videos to offer a realistic look at summer jobs, entrepreneurial examples, and volunteer work. We watched the opener, Working For Someone Else, which interviewed teens working in the aforementioned food service industry, an office, construction, a pet store, and at camp about their duties, goals, etc. At the end of each interview, a list of "similar" jobs are provided (but I failed to see the link between say "office worker" and "driver," among others). The program closes with a rather stilted, straightforward series of tips from a pair of guidance counselors. The other titles in the series are: Working for Yourself and Working in Community Service (series price: $219.95). Not a necessary purchase. Aud: H. (R. Pitman)
