“You're more than just a tourist, you're a yoga person,” exclaims the narrator in Yoga Vacations & Getaways--a boast that might get you a free pretzel in Southern California, but won't mean a monkey's hiney to a headwaiter working in Garwhal, India. But what a Match-Made-in-Special-Interest-Video-Heaven!--combining a little old-fashioned R&R with your basic F&F (fit & firm). Beautifully filmed and nicely paced, our voice-over land-cruise director takes us to yoga camps and dream retreats around the world, such as Hot Sulphur Springs in the Rockies, Railroad Park in California, Kalani Oceanside Retreat and Mana Le'a Gardens (both in Hawaii), the Villa Shanti and Maya Tulum retreats (in Mexico), and the Manderian Oriental Ananda Retreat in Garwhal India--nine "dream" (read: pricey) getaways altogether. On these vacation yoga jaunts, viewers get a sampling of meditation sessions, healing treatments, a Native American sweat lodge, gourmet vegan menus and swimming with the dolphins. While each resort boasts detailed descriptions of deluxe accommodations (with the end credits listing all the vital contact information), no prices are actually mentioned, though I suspect that just getting to most of these places would max out my R&R nest egg. With its can't miss combination of relaxing workouts (if becoming a pretzel is your idea of relaxation) in exotic locales, this is sure to be popular. Recommended. Aud: P. (N. Plympton)
