Filmmakers Les Blank and Maureen Gosling deliver another tasty treatise on gastronomy with this music-filled look at food, Cajun style. Musician, accordion maker, and Cajun cook Marc Savoy ("Paul Prudhomme? Who's that?") and his friends discuss the history of Cajun food while they prepare a massive spread; Margaret Chenier (widow of musician Clifton Chenier) prepares some "dirty rice;" and "Queen Ida" Guillory throws some okra, green peppers, onions and spices into a pot and makes a "hot" dish. Everyone has a good story to tell, and some of the best come from Savoy who describes his experiences with "Cajun food" at Disneyland, relates a wonderful story about cooking duck on a cypress board, and offers viewers a bit of good advice: when you're having cow tongue, peel that sucker while its hot; otherwise it's the dickens to get the skin off. Whether it's tongue, frog legs, or just plain gumbo, Yum, Yum, Yum! covers the food waterfront of Louisiana Cajun and Creole cooking with customary Blank panache and gusto. Highly recommended.
