The third movie in the series, Capo di Famiglia III follows the La Rosa family’s criminal and political exploits in the Netherlands. Godfather of the family, widower and loving uncle, Vincent La Rosa (Dirk Gunther Mohr) must steer his family to calm waters after the loss of his father, the former head of the family, and his wife. To do so, Vincent enlists the help of his son, Daniel (Max Laros), who is a rising politician along with a powerful priest (Peter Blankenstein) who owes the La Rosa family millions.
Vincent hopes to sway public and political opinion at a national level to help clear the La Rosa family name and obscure their criminal enterprises. Things happen slowly at first, but eventually, the plan falls to pieces. With the courts and police breathing down his neck, Vincent must act quickly and decisively to save what remains of his family.
While obviously low budget, Capo di Famiglia III offers an experience reminiscent of the mob movies of the 60s and 70s in a modern European setting: It’s well shot and the dialogue is often compelling. While certainly not on the same level as The Godfather, it has a similar vibe at times. There are many moments of celebration and average daily life, but the mood is often somber and conspiratorial as Vincent does everything in his power to assure his son becomes the youngest Prime Minister in the Netherlands.
The movie begins with a baptism and a burial, setting the tone for the rest of the movie quite quickly; joy and loss. While the plot is quite classic in terms of mob stories, it’s acted out in a way that reminds me more of Game of Thrones than Gomorrah. Capo di Famiglia III packs a lot of plot into just over 60 minutes, making it an excellent choice for lovers of crime stories with limited screen time. Highly Recommended.
