After watching Emma Thompson's stately performances in Howard's End, Remains of the Day and Sense and Sensibility, it's nice to watch her get down and dirty as painter Dora Carrington. Jonathan Pryce (the Infinity guy) was named Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance as celebrated writer and confirmed homosexual Lytton Strachey, her kindred, if not platonic, soul mate. Withering wit and feverish sex for the smart set and a grand showcase for its stars. Recommended. (K. Benson)[Blu-ray/DVD Review—Dec. 13, 2016—Olive, 123 min., R, DVD: $24.95, Blu-ray: $29.95—Making its latest appearance on DVD and debut on Blu-ray, 1995's Carrington features a nice transfer and DTS stereo on the Blu-ray release. Extras include “A Modern Love Story” behind-the-scenes featurette (10 min.), and trailers. Bottom line: a sexy period drama makes a welcome debut on Blu-ray.]
