One of the defining films of the Me Decade, Adrian Lyne's 1987 hit Fatal Attraction stars Michael Douglas as a happily married man who chooses absolutely the wrong woman with whom to have an affair. Glenn Close, playing against type, costars as the single-career woman-turned-maniacal-stalker (lock up your rabbits!), a fact not lost on feminists who protested the film upon its release. For film fans, the real attractions here are the extensive supplemental features, which in addition to director Lyne's commentary, include three illuminating segments about the making of the film and its impact on popular culture. Viewers will also see the film's original, more low-key ending, which, after audience testing, was scrapped in favor of the crowd-pleasing shocker finale. Sporting a sharp widescreen transfer and an upgraded Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, this is recommended. (K. Lee Benson)[Blu-ray Review— June 9, 2009—Paramount, 119 min., R, $29.99—Making its first appearance on Blu-ray, 1987's Fatal Attraction sports a decent transfer with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound. Blu-ray extras include audio commentary by director Adrian Lyne, a 28-minute “Forever Fatal: Remembering Fatal Attraction” retrospective featurette, a 20-minute “Visual Attraction” behind-the-scenes featurette, an alternate ending with a director intro (12 min.), a “Social Attraction” featurette on the film's cultural impact (10 min.), seven minutes of “Rehearsal Footage,” and trailers. Bottom line: a pop culture phenomenon makes a solid debut on Blu-ray.]
