The Village Voice described this as "the ultimate psychokiller-jailbait-biker-cowboy-blaxploitation-vampire flick of 1996," and that about covers it. George Clooney and a thankfully restrained Quentin Tarantino star as the Gecko brothers, who take hostage lapsed pastor Harvey Keitel, his daughter (Juliette Lewis) and his son, and head south of the border in the family's R-V. When they arrive at a remote trucker's bar, the film takes a delirious detour into Splattersville as the group find themselves under siege by vampires. Tarantino dusted off this old script and handed it to director Robert Rodriguez whose visual flair is a match for Tarantino's verbal pyrotechnics. The casting of icons Cheech Marin, Fred Williamson and makeup master Tom Savini add life to the party. An optional purchase. (K. Lee Benson)
