Based on the "classic James Herbert novel" (released as a horror paperback original), this lumbering ghost story stars Aidan Quinn as a tortured professor who goes around the British countryside disproving paranormal claims, until he runs into a decidedly eccentric, apparently incestuous, passel of siblings. Although the audience knows what's up by the end of the first half-hour, the professor is a little absent-minded, so he needs an extra ninety minutes to get a clue. Sir John Gielgud, billed as a star, is wasted in all of two scenes. Not recommended. (R. Pitman)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
