It's a Mann's man's world in this masterful crime thriller by the creator of Miami Vice and the director of the cult classic, Manhunter (the other Hannibal Lecter movie). The big attraction of this testosterone-fest is, of course, the first-ever on-camera pairing of Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, doing what each does best on opposite sides of the law. At the heart of the film is their shared conversation over a cup of coffee during which the cop and the master criminal learn that they have much in common, but neither will "pause for a second" to take the other down (nothing personal, of course). Highly recommended. (K. Benson)
