Lili Taylor (Dogfight) turns in a tour-de-force performance as Valerie Solanas, head of S.C.U.M. (the Society for Cutting Up Men), who made her mark by shooting pop-art superstar Andy Warhol. Told in flashback, director Mary Harron's absorbing character study follows Solanas' checkered bi-sexual love/prostitution life, struggling career as a feminist writer, and hanger-on at The Factory (Warhol's creative/party HQ) during the mid-60's. Jared Harris is suitably mousey as Warhol, and the recreation of the psychedelic 60's--while nearly bogging down the film during one ad infinitum sequence--will set off memory flashbacks in greying love children. And speaking of love, be forewarned: heavy sex scenes and graphic language make this one a hard "R." Recommended. (R. Pitman)
